About
Every Love Song in the World is a body of work around the Philippines' entanglement with digital infrastructure. Tracing a century of Filipino history, warfare, faith, migration, and labor across personal, captured, and imagined vignettes.
The work exists as a modular performance-lecture, texts, and series of works. Each of its 'love songs' explores different subjects and mediums that look at the love, cruelty, labor, and extraction mediated by Filipinos across networks.

A Virus ILOVEYOU
In 2000, Onel de Guzman infected millions of computers from a virus he programmed, seeking to collect internet passwords. One of the most destructive viruses in history preyed on people’s desire for love, and came from a place of lack.

A Pisonet
Pisonets are coin-operated machines that give access for a few minutes at a time, a testament of the sachet economy applied to technologies. They line the streets across provinces.

A Gameshow WOWOWEE
Wowowee was a noontime variety show hosted by Willie Revillame that promised the Filipino dream, and preyed on spectacle and need. On its first anniversary in 2006, a crowd crush killed 73 people outside the PhilSports Stadium.

Technology of imitation and control from Japan, the videoke is the foundational form of the piece and a proxy for what replication does for us.

A Database REMOTASKS
Platforms like Amazon’s Mechanical Turks and Remotasks employ Filipinos to train AI through labeling, transcription, annotation, and other classification tasks. If Filipino perception mediates technical systems, what would a dream of refusal look like?

Marian apparitions have always defied authority and existed in states of contradiction. Visionaries like Judiel Nieva or Teresita Castillo face ostracization, but birth new directions for belief.

The Philippines is the leading exporter of care workers. Mary Jane Veloso, a domestic worker who was exploited, trafficked, and put on death row in Indonesia for over a decade has been a geopolitical pawn and living saint.

In 2004, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo allegedly rigged the presidential elections in her favor with a vast network of accomplices. The calls from ‘gloriagate’ became popular ringtones of choice.

A POGO LUCKY SOUTH 99
Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators arose in popularity during the pandemic, running casino games and livestreams from apartments and complexes across the country, often with workers who were trafficked and held without pay. Shutdowns have been underway since 2024.

A Queen ROMANA DIDULO
Romana Didulo is known as the QAnon Queen of Canada, a Filipino-Canadian migrant who once ran a recruitment company helping foreign skilled workers. Since the late 2010s, she has led a cult mixing fringe mystical movements with her at the center.

A Cable
From 1900–1912, the first American cable ship in the Pacific, USAT Burnside, was manned by about 116 Filipino crewmen. They laid thousands of miles of cable across the Pacific, and serviced American military bases. Burning uses modern networking infrastructure to narrate fictionalized tales of these seamen.

A series of ambiences on anthropomorphized calamities, satellite mythologies, Diwata-1, heavenly sensing, and animist belief. Part alternate mythology, ambient performance, and weather resampling of the conflicting narratives, data, senses, and histories we use to construct the heavens.
